Oxford Business Group Efforts to promote Thailand’s competitiveness and economic stability recently received a boost with the launching of The Report: Thailand 2009, the most comprehensive English language report on the country’s investment and business opportunities ever published. The Report: Thailand 2009, which was produced by Oxford Business Group (OBG) in partnership with the Board of Investment (BOI), was launched on 29 June 2009 at the Royal Thai Government house, Santi Maitri Building in the presence of H.E. the Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, Minister of Industry H.E. BOI Annouces New Investment Scheme for Automotive Industry At its 10 June 2009 meeting, the Board of Investment (BOI), chaired by H.E. Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, approved a new incentive scheme for the automobile industry, revised conditions related to low and middle-income housing projects, and removed limitations on the corporate income tax waiver for companies listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) or Market for Alternative Investments (MAI). Korea Office Opening On 2 July 2009, H.E. Chanchai Chairungruang, Minister of Industry, presided over the opening ceremony of the BOI’s new offce in Seoul, South Korea. Joining him at the ceremony were Mr. Kim Dong Soo, Director General of Korea’s Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE); Mr. Cho Hwan-Eik, President of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA); Dr. Damri Sukhotanang, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry; and Dr. Atchaka Brimble, BOI Secretary General. The BOI offce opening represented a continuation of a long history of cooperation between Thailand and Korea, as last year marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. JFCCT Meeting The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI ) met with representatives of the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand (JFCCT) on 22 June 2009 to discuss a variety of issues relevant to foreign investors and to review the progress made to date in resolving issues raised at previous meetings. Over 50 representatives from 26 foreign chambers attended the meeting, as did numerous representatives of a range of Thai government ministries, including the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and the Ministry of Commerce.
