Subcon Thailand 2009
For the third consecutive year, SUBCON Thailand proved to be a huge success. Held from 13-16 May 2009 at Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC), SUBCON Thailand 2009 (SCT09) attracted more than 18,000 visitors from all around the world. Attendance was hampered somewhat by concerns over the H1N1 outbreaks and Thailand’s political stability, but that didn’t slow down the region’s premier subcontracting exhibition as it generated a record amount of business transactions in 2009.

BOI Hosts APEC-BOI World Bank Workshop
With the global economy in decline, the competition for foreign direct investment (FDI) is as ferce as ever. That is why the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) decided to team up with APEC Investment Experts’ Group and the World Bank Group’s Foreign Investment Advisory Service (FIAS) to host members of APEC (Asia Pacifc Economic Cooperation) for a workshop on ‘Improving Investment Performance in Accessibility to Investors and Information Provision’. The three day workshop was held from 3-5 June, 2009 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bangkok.

Legal Issues with Foreign Ownership of Land
Contrary to popular belief , land ownership rules in Thailand as they apply to foreigners are quite straightforward. Foreign individuals and foreign companies are not allowed to own any direct interest in land unless an exception to the general rule applies.

Thai Competitiveness on the Rise
Despite the ongoing political turmoil in the country, Thailand continues to have one of Southeast Asia’s most competitive economies. Thailand rose one place to 26th in the latest IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook (WCY), a ranking of the world’s 57 most competitive economies.

BOI Opens New Office in Sydney
On 30 April 2009, Thailand Industry Minister Chanchai Chairungruang presiding over the investment seminar marking the offcial opening of the new BOI offce in Sydney, which was held at the Sheraton on the Park. H.E. Mr. Anthony Byrne, Parliamentary Secretary for Trade; Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, and other Australian representatives from both the private and public sector also joined the ceremony.

Thai-French Innovation Institute
The Thai-French Innovation Center was establ ished in June 1992 as a collaborative venture between King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), the French Federation of Mechanical Engineering Industries (FIM), France DIDAC, and thirteen French companies. In 2008, it was reborn as the Thai-French Innovation Institute (TFII), and now it serves as the major tool for scientifc and technical cooperation between Thailand and France.
